The Soap: Taylor Of Old Bond Street Coconut Luxury Shaving Cream
The Brush: The Guv'nor Pure Badger
The Balm: The Bluebeards Revenge
The Shave:
Woah. Hang on a minute. A shave involving two different razors? What ... the ... hell?
I don't know about you but if I haven't shaved with a shavette-style razor for a while – as was the case here – I kind of lose my skills a bit and have to back up a little and take extra care. So I went for a first pass with the Feather Artist Club SS folding razor – to get me back into the swing of things, as I'll shortly be welcoming a straight razor into my home and I need the practise* - and then the second and third pass with the P1R8 (or pirate) butterfly TTO razor from Barbarossa Brothers. More about Barbarossa Brothers elsewhere, as I'm a fan of their products** and have three of their razors, including the P1R8.
The result? A perfectly decent shave, if I do say so myself. You know when everything just seems to go as planned, with no lacerations, no irritation and you feel like although the world isn't perfect, bloody hell it's great to be alive? One of those sorts of shaves.
* When I say straight razor, I do actually mean a full-on, made-in-Germany straight razor. One that will require stropping with a razor strop before each shave, so that's something I'll have to learn to do. Luckily the fine people at Cutter & Grinder take you through the ins and outs of a new straight razor when you buy one from them. I can't wait. I'm going to look like I'm in Peaky Blinders or something. A whole new world of temptation welcomes me in and the doors slam shut behind me.
** Particularly their Ottoman DE safety razor. Probably the heaviest razor in my collection, closely followed by another one I got from a local market stall which also sells shaving soap, beard oil, after-shave balm and shavettes. I heard the owner talking to a customer recently and he actually admitted, 'I hate shaving.' A man, who runs a shaving stall selling quite expensive, traditional shaving products, who hates shaving. What?
