Phwooooar. Look. Look. Look at it. Definitely a razor I'd be taking home to meet my parents, if either of them were a) interested or, for that matter b) still alive. Would it be an exaggeration to say I'd like to take the RazoRock SLOC out for drinks, a candlelit meal and then on to a West End show? No, it wouldn't. I flipping love this razor, probably more than any man has a right to.
When I first took this out of its packaging I thought of the Chrysler Building in New York. Of course, that's a silly and downright stupid comparison to make, as trying to shave my face with the Chrysler Building would be tricky to say the least – certainly extremely difficult to keep it at the required 30-degree angle.
In terms of performance, the razor is no way near as aggressive as its art deco-style, double open comb head might suggest. It delivers a comfortable BBS shave after three passes. Or two full passes and then a clean-up pass on the neck in my case, which involves applying lather to odd spots and going over them ATG in order to achieve the smoothness required. Purists will probably be wagging their pompous fingers in my face for doing this, but it works for me without any significant outbreaks of razor burn, so take those admonishing frowns and turn them into smiles.
And what, you may well ask, is a self-lubricating razor? I think the theory is that the double open comb helps to trap water and shaving lather, thus making the shave itself more comfortable. I'm not entirely sure that this is the case. I'm sure I could run a battery of tests comparing water retention in this razor to that in single open comb razors such as the Muhle R41 or the Fatip Grande, but while I may well be described as a wet-shaving enthusiast with time on his hands I don't have that much time on my hands.
10/10 for effort. Others may disagree. But they'd be wrong.
