I've been rather busy since the end of September, learning to be a barber. I haven't had much time to keep the blog updated. I'd sort of intended to write a daily blog but that didn't quite work out. I have three and a half weeks of the course left, at the end of which I'll be a qualified barber and able to cut hair for a living, in theory.
Here's a selection of cuts from the last couple of months.

Keen-eyed subscribers will recognise the flowing locks of Excalibur, my middle son.
For those that are interested - that was a bald fade up into a #2 around the sides and back and some scissor over comb to blend in the sides with the top.

Before and after shots here of a 0.5 fade, with nothing off the top. Annoyingly, photographs always make the haircut look like there are lines in there which mysteriously aren't there when I'm actually doing the haircut itself.

Look everyone. It's my eldest son, Montgomery, here sporting a rather fresh-looking fade into a scissor-cut top. I was rather proud of this one. As you can tell by the expression on Montgomery's face, he was over the moon about it too, the cheeky funster.

It's not all about fades and short hair here. To prove my point, here's a one-length cut for Wellington, a college student of the dark arts here in Brighton. You can't tell because her face isn't visible, but she was ecstatic about having me cut her hair.

Three people, three haircuts. The gentleman in the bottom row didn't want any clipper work, despite my best efforts to convince him otherwise. So I went at his head with scissors only and I'm glad I did. So was he. Or at least I'm fairly convinced he was smiling under that mask.

And the haircuts just keep coming.
The bottom two rows emphasise a fade and my first beard trim. I discovered that there's something inherently funny about giving someone a beard trim, because you have to be quite close to their face.

Ah, yes. Now. This gentleman came in and I was convinced he was going to ask for a scissor cut. Imagine my delight when he asked for a 0.5 fade and a drastic trim on top. Great transformation.

Nothing too complicated here but the sort of haircut that I suspect will form about 75% of the haircuts I do when I'm doing this for a living. A simple #2 around the sides and back and a trim across the top.

A taper fade for this gentleman who seemed very happy with the result. Unless of course he walked out, went round the corner and burst into tears, which I guess is always a possibility.
And there you have it, for the time being. There are lots more to come in the approaching weeks as I finish the course, which has been the best and most frustrating thing I've ever done, in equal measures. The frustration comes from not being instantly brilliant at it and recognising that of course I won't be. But still wanting to be brilliant at it straight away.
Onwards and upwards.
